My Love of Remodeling

Hello I'm Risa Lee. When my husband and I bought our first home, it was with the intention of doing some major remodeling. We liked the basic floor plan, and it was cheap, but other than that, nothing was right about the house. It took us a while to get started because neither of us had the time or the knowledge. Finally, there was a summer when he had a three-week vacation. Instead of going on a trip, we used our time and money to finally get started on our remodel. To our surprise, we both fell in love with amateur construction! We have since bought and remodeled a few other homes because we love it so much. We're in no way professionals, but please feel free to join in our love and experience in basic construction. Maybe you will learn something!

Are You In Or Out? Indoor Versus Outdoor Self Storage

Many self storage facilities have two choices for environment: Indoor storage units and outdoor storage units. Both of these storage choices do have advantages, and knowing these advantages can help you determine whether you're in or out when it comes to self storage.

Indoor Storage Advantages

Indoor storage lockers are typically housed in large buildings that contain multiple units. The pros of an indoor storage locker include:

  • Climate Control: Indoor storage units are climate-controlled. The contents are not exposed to the harsh elements since they are indoors. Many items (electronics, for example) will warp or become brittle if exposed to extreme heat or cold. The buildings are air-conditioned in summer and heated in the winter, which allows you to store your possessions in temperatures similar to those you maintain in your home.
  • Security: Indoor storage lockers are typically more secure than outdoor ones, simply because they are inside a large building with its own security. You have to enter an access code or use a key to get entrance to the building, in addition to whatever security measures are used on your individual storage locker.

Outdoor Storage Advantages

Outdoor storage lockers are perhaps the most popular option for self storage today because the indoor units are a newer option. Some of the outdoor unit advantages include:

  • Price: Outdoor storage units are typically less expensive than indoor ones, making them a good choice for anyone on a budget.
  • Easy Access: If you are looking for an easy-access storage option, outdoor units might be your best bet. You will typically only need to drive or walk up to your unit, and then use your key on the lock or enter the storage unit entry code if the unit has an electronic key pad. While it may have fewer layers of security than an indoor unit has, you can get to your possessions faster with an outdoor unit.
  • Large Item Storage: If you need to store very large items like cars, an outdoor unit is available in a size large enough to house it properly. Perhaps you need to store other vehicles like farm equipment. You may want to protect the vehicle with a covering to prevent potential damage from elements that might creep into the unit. If you want to store large boxes or furniture, it is wise to place them on a pallet to protect against the elements.

Whether you choose to be in or out, a storage unit can be a great place to keep your possessions safe until you need them again. Call your local storage facility to find out what kind of options they have today!
