My Love of Remodeling

Hello I'm Risa Lee. When my husband and I bought our first home, it was with the intention of doing some major remodeling. We liked the basic floor plan, and it was cheap, but other than that, nothing was right about the house. It took us a while to get started because neither of us had the time or the knowledge. Finally, there was a summer when he had a three-week vacation. Instead of going on a trip, we used our time and money to finally get started on our remodel. To our surprise, we both fell in love with amateur construction! We have since bought and remodeled a few other homes because we love it so much. We're in no way professionals, but please feel free to join in our love and experience in basic construction. Maybe you will learn something!

Three Modern Roofing Materials That Can Be Used To Replace Asphalt Shingles

If you have an asphalt roof on your home, it will eventually need to be replaced due to normal wear and tear. Asphalt shingles are a very affordable roofing solution, but they do not last as long as some of the many other alternatives that are available today. These alternatives can include metal and synthetic roofing materials that are more durable. Here are some of the modern options to replace your conventional asphalt shingles:

1. Metal Roofing Options For A Durable Roof

If you want to have a roof that is durable and will last for several generations, metal materials are the best choice. The cost of installing metal roofing has also become more affordable in recent years. The difference in price of an asphalt and metal roof is not that much, and when you consider that you will need less repairs and no replacement, it is actually a cost-effective roofing solution. You can also choose from many different systems, such as panels, seamless and metal roofing shingles.

2. Rubber Roofing Materials For The Look Of Slate Or Tile

Another option for a durable asphalt shingle replacement is rubber roofing materials. These roofing materials are often made to resemble slate roofs and can be a good choice if you want to have a slate roof without doing major renovations to the roof structure of your home. Rubber roofing materials will also be very durable and resistant to problems, such as storm damage, which can be costly repairs for asphalt shingles. These materials often have a longer life span than asphalt roofing too, which means that you will save on the cost of replacement.

3. Composite Roofing Materials To Give Your Home The Look Of Shakes

Composite roofing materials are another option for the roof on your home. This can be a great option if you want to have the look of shakes. These materials are often made out of recycled and waste materials. This can be a solution for a shake roof in areas where wood is not ideal. It is also very durable and can outlast conventional asphalt shingles. If you want to replace your asphalt roof with shakes, composite materials are a great, durable option to consider.

These are some of the modern options you may want to consider to replace your asphalt shingles. If you are ready to have a new roof installed on your home, contact a local roofing contractor, such as Starkweather & Sons Roofing & Siding, and talk with them about some of these modern roofing alternatives.
