My Love of Remodeling

Hello I'm Risa Lee. When my husband and I bought our first home, it was with the intention of doing some major remodeling. We liked the basic floor plan, and it was cheap, but other than that, nothing was right about the house. It took us a while to get started because neither of us had the time or the knowledge. Finally, there was a summer when he had a three-week vacation. Instead of going on a trip, we used our time and money to finally get started on our remodel. To our surprise, we both fell in love with amateur construction! We have since bought and remodeled a few other homes because we love it so much. We're in no way professionals, but please feel free to join in our love and experience in basic construction. Maybe you will learn something!

Creating A Kid-Approved Swimming Pool In Your Backyard

When it comes to adding a swimming pool for your kids to your backyard, you want to make sure it has the features your children can appreciate while also staying safe. Here are a few options to consider as you make plans with your pool builder to transform your backyard:

Zero-Entry Pools

Zero-entry pools mimic the shoreline of a beach, with the water level gradually rising the further you wade. This means that little ones can find the perfect depth for splashing and playing. If the pool will primarily be used by children, work with your pool builder to make the deepest end of the pool around 3 or 4 feet. You can also opt to keep the entire pool relatively shallow at less than 2 feet. Talk to your contractor about the different options to determine which size is best for your available space and your needs.

There are a host of different types of slides you can have added to your pool, from traditional designs with a simple staircase to mountain-shaped slides complete with waterfalls. You can even get a water park-style slide installed, which features water running down the slide for even bigger splashes. Your contractor will be able to help determine the safest height for your slide based on your pool's depth. Consider adding a smaller slide for younger children so they can still enjoy the fun without having to climb as high.

Sprinklers And Fountains

Sprinklers and fountains let you enjoy a little bit of Las Vegas-inspired style in your backyard while also adding extra fun to your swimming pool. Your contractor can situate the streams of water to spray from the edge of the pool to the center for a cool, refreshing way to enjoy a hot summer day. The fountains and sprinklers can also be lit with colorful LED lighting, giving you a way to brighten up your backyard for dinner parties or late night swims. If you prefer a more natural look, opt for a waterfall instead of the sprinklers and fountains. Swimming pool waterfalls can also be lit for added viability and safety at night.

Talk to your pool contractor about the ages of your children and how much time you expect them to spend in the swimming pool. Your contractor can then help you to find the design and size that's perfect for your backyard and your little ones to enjoy.
