My Love of Remodeling

Hello I'm Risa Lee. When my husband and I bought our first home, it was with the intention of doing some major remodeling. We liked the basic floor plan, and it was cheap, but other than that, nothing was right about the house. It took us a while to get started because neither of us had the time or the knowledge. Finally, there was a summer when he had a three-week vacation. Instead of going on a trip, we used our time and money to finally get started on our remodel. To our surprise, we both fell in love with amateur construction! We have since bought and remodeled a few other homes because we love it so much. We're in no way professionals, but please feel free to join in our love and experience in basic construction. Maybe you will learn something!

A Few Asphalt Paving Questions Homeowners Often Need Answered

Paving your driveway with asphalt can be an excellent option when you are needing to replace your existing driveway or have one installed for the first time. While asphalt is a commonly used paving material, you may lack a sufficient understanding about this material to make a choice about it.

Is Asphalt Suitable For Areas With Frequent Snow And Ice?

Individuals will often assume that concrete will always be the best paving material for driveways that experience frequent snow and ice. However, concrete can actually be a rather poor material for this type of climate due to it being extremely brittle. In contrast, asphalt is fairly flexible, which will allow it to expand and contract with the temperature. Another concern homeowners will have is due to the need to use deicing chemicals. Often, individuals assume that chemicals will severely degrade asphalt. Fortunately, applying a sealant to the asphalt will protect it against these chemicals so that you can enjoy an ice-free driveway while avoiding causing excessive wear to it.

What Are The Landscaping Repercussions Of Asphalt Paving?

You may take great pride in the appearance of your property's landscaping, and this can lead to understandable hesitations when it comes to having large sections of it paved. Often, homeowners will assume that these paving projects will have serious consequences for their landscaping due to needing to have large sections of the property excavated, but it is possible for professional paving services to limit the disruption your landscaping may experience. Additionally, a professionally paved driveway may help your landscaping as it will limit erosion from cars and rain.

Is There A Time Of Year That Is Best For Asphalt Paving?

When asphalt is poured, it will need to be at extremely hot temperatures. As a result, it is typically preferable to perform this type of work during the warm months of the year. However, it is possible to do this work as long as the temperature is sufficiently above freezing. Therefore, you may still be able to have your driveway paved with asphalt during the winter as long as there is a long enough break in freezing weather to allow for the asphalt to set after being poured. Furthermore, it is important to note that this type of work can not be done during periods of rain as the water will interfere with the asphalt curing process. Regardless of the time of year that you have this work done, it must be done during periods of dry weather.
